How to Color Grass: A Step-by-Step Tutorial
Share
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to layer greens, add highlights, and create realistic textures for a natural look.
Materials Needed:
-
Alcohol markers (light green, grass green, deep green, olive green, and yellow-green)
-
White Gelly Roll pen
- Pencil (I usually use inkless pencil)
Step 1: Sketch the Grass Area
Use a pencil to lightly outline the general area of the grass. For a more natural effect, vary the height and direction of the blades.
Step 2: Base Layer with Light Green
Start with a light green base.
Then add a different shade of green
Step 3: Add Depth with Deeper Greens
Step 4: Add green and darker green for blades of grass
Go over any areas that need more definition, adding extra grass strokes or blending colors further for a soft, natural look.
Step 5: Highlight with White Pen
Use a white acrylic pen or a white Gelly Roll pen to add tiny highlights on some grass blades to create a dewy, fresh effect.
And that’s it!
